Journey through endless ripples

Jayshree’s award winning, debut children’s book, One Drop, Endless Ripples will take you on One Drop’s transformational journey as it transforms itself and the environment it is a part of.

This beautifully illustrated, poetic story was inspired by the melting ice that followed the Texas snowstorm in February 2021.

Meet the Illustrator

Alexandra McLellan is a Texas artist and graduate of the University of Texas with a close connection to New Zealand.

Her passion for the environment and marine biology made her the perfect choice to illustrate “One Drop, Endless Ripples”.

Alexandra McLellan’s artistic talent and passion for the environment and marine biology made her the perfect choice to illustrate this journey of water.

Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Texas.  Her artistic interest and work involve marine science, conservation/environmentalism, and ornithology.  In other words, she is a crazy bird fanatic and loves the ocean and all of its life!

As an artist who is classically trained in painting and drawing, Alexandra found the transition of illustrating for this book challenging and rewarding. This was the first project in which she has used the Gouache method of painting.

“To bring a character to life is its own brand of artistry. It’s been extremely rewarding to work on the paintings that brought ‘One Drop, Endless Ripples’ to life.”

One Drop, Endless Ripples is Alexandra’s first project as a graduate, launching her journey on a meaningful path to share her art.

“I want to inspire future generations to drive the kind of change we need to improve our relationship with this beautiful, big blue world."

Alexandra’s work mostly centers around topics of nature and the environment. Specifically, how we navigate those spaces with concern and attention. While she paints with her ideas and perspectives, she also loves to allow the audience to see and discover new perspectives through her artwork.

This book introduces in a poetic way to children the cycle of water. Its beautiful illustrations and rich language offer opportunities not only to enjoy a nice reading with your child and your kindergarten students, but also to spark conversations about nature and science. As an early childhood teacher I can see how younger children will enjoy the illustrations and the music of the language while it can be used as a support for more discoveries with older children.

The story is colorful, informative and inspires or triggers learning for infants to small children. It is a story with pictures that can be read and looked over again and again. For new parents and grandparents, for day-care and pre-schoolers and first readers it can be a favorite book and story. It shows the wonders of nature which we are all trying to preserve. It will make you smile!
