How One Drop was Born
From Frozen to Flowing
One Drop, Endless Ripples was inspired by the melting ice that followed the freak Texas storm in February 2021. It is also inspired by my life in New Zealand where everywhere you look, water and nature are dancing through mountains, rivers, valleys, and oceans.
After a rather traumatic week of frozen pipes and power outages during the Texas snowstorm in February 2021, I noticed that the ice started melting from the rafters on the sixth day - as soon as the sun came out!
This got me thinking about the resilience and adaptability of water and what it teaches us about life. I soon became inspired to write an uplifting book that explores life through a single drop of water...a story that brings the reader into the moment...flowing just like water...
I realized that personally, I had felt stuck for a long time. There was so much change around me. I was dealing with moving to a new country, a new culture, recreating my career and then the pandemic hit. There was so much fear and uncertainty about many things. My fear and insecurities were holding me back from my dream to be an author and to make a difference for future generations.
When I noticed the melting ice, it was like nature was telling me something: “You don’t have to stay stuck. The sun will always come out and if you turn to it, you can flow again.”
Then I started thinking about the incredible power and resilience of water which is so transformational and adapts to its changing environment and, in turn, changes the environment that it is a part of.
Through water, nature teaches us about transformation, resilience, continual flow, and limitless possibility.
What I was trying to understand as an adult, felt so much clearer in a children’s story, and so One Drop, Endless Ripples was born.
